Your stylish start to 2025
If you’ve been in my world for a while, you’ll know that my biggest mission is to get you to a place of liking what you see in the mirror.
I want you to have a distinct style that you love. One that feels comfortable to wear, that works for your lifestyle and that makes you feel just fabulous.
A new year feels like a good time to refocus on this and on what it is in particular that makes you feel good. (It’s also useful to recognise what doesn’t make you feel good so we can start removing those pieces from your clothing collection.)
Rather than giving you anything too taxing to do at the very start of the year, I invite you to simply do some thinking and maybe even some writing down.
Answer these two questions:
1. When you feel your very best in an outfit, what are you wearing? Can you break down exactly what it is that gives you that feeling?
a. The colour
b. The shape
c. The style
d. The fabric
e. The print
f. Something else?
2. When you feel frumpy/boring/scruffy (insert whichever word feels most like your bad outfit days), what is it that is bringing you down?
a. Old, shapeless clothes
b. Particular colours or lack of colour?
c. A particular type of clothing i.e. skirts
d. Certain prints or plain fabrics
e. Fabrics that feel itchy or that don’t allow your skin to breathe
f. Something else?
When you’ve identified these two factors, keep them in mind. Any outfits you put together, from this day forth, can deliberately be improved by your own personal specific dos and don’ts.
Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment. I always love hearing from you.

Hi Helen, Happy New Year! You’ve inspired me to have another clearout! I’ve realised that my navy blue work trousers and cardigan make me feel boring and middle aged. However, a similar outfit in brown or black doesn’t. I can see there’s a good and a bad way to feel my clothes are unnoticeable: the right fit and colour means I feel good and can just get on with my day. Thanks for re-inspiring me!
Hi Alex, Happy New Year to you too! I love that you’ve made that discovery and that it’s an easy switch for you. Enjoy your clearout and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. x
Hi Helen, Happy New Year to you. I hope you have had a lovely break and enjoyed being up the mountain!
I feel best in clothes that fit well and cover my tummy. Also certain fabrics make me feel happier. I feel scruffy and frumpy in joggies and t-shirts, also things that are worn out and shapeless.
I’m looking forward to the style event on the 17th.
Hi Jo, Happy New Year to you too! I know what you mean about fabrics. It’s so joyful to identify the ones that feel good to you.
See you on 17th! I can’t wait.
