Sales Strategy

I wonder if your thoughts have turned to the prospect of longer warmer days, turning off the heating and maybe even ditching the thermals right about now?

We aren’t quite there yet, but each day I notice something else on my daily walk that proves that winter is almost over. I enjoy each season (although Autumn is my fave) and I LOVE change, so when the days become lighter and longer and the beautiful sunny daffodils appear, it brings me a definite spring in my step. That, coupled with the very real prospect of being able to live a bigger life this summer has me feeling SO happy.

But what shall we wear?

I’ve just pulled together a mini trend summary for my Style Club members and thought I’d share some of the highlights for the season with you. You might need a boost of inspiration style-wise, especially if you’ve kind of forgotten what to wear that isn’t loungewear.

I don’t believe in blindly following fashion but I do care about style – and staying up-to-date. So, I’ve highlighted 5 wearable trends below and added a note about who they might be just right for so that you don’t waste your time, energy and money trying on pieces that make you feel rubbish.

1.BIG TROUSERS news!

After years and years of skinny and slim fit being the most popular style, you’ll start to see wide legs everywhere, from culottes to tailored trousers and jeans. For most of us, a wide leg trouser needs to be worn with a more fitted top – which can bring another layer of angst to anyone with boobs or a tummy. Look for thicker cotton tops, pieces with some structure and (as I’m forever harping on), remember that a flat fronted trouser with a side or back zip can hold things in AND allow you to breathe.

This black pair of culottes look perfect for anyone with what I call a ‘straight’ figure type – anyone with no real difference between their waist and hip measurement. And, worn with bright white, ties them in with another big trend this season…monochrome. Add some silver trainers and off you go!

2.Style with comfort

Although some of us will be returning to the workplace or at least have more in-person interactions, there remains an abundance of ‘pull on’ trousers. Most brands are easing us gently into the world of ‘proper’ clothes by selling these in-between styles. I love the look of this pull-on pair from Boden in bright green (perfect for dramatic springs!) which look tailored from the front but are elasticated at the back. The reviews suggest sizing down in these. And, they are also available in petite fit.

3.Bold and colourful print!

How better to capture the mood and celebration of the return to a more ‘normal’ life, than colour and print. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but for all you dramatics out there, fill your boots!

4.The Shacket!

A cross between a shirt and a jacket makes a very useful, casual style jacket. This is such a useful idea for spring/summer. I’ve been eyeing up this Baukjen number which is one of my favourite online brands (and soon to be stocked in John Lewis!).

5.Chunky jewellery

For years, the trend has been for fine jewellery which is too delicate for some of us to wear well. So I for one am pleased to see the return of chunkier pieces. Your scale determines the size or chunkiness of jewellery that suits you best. Find out how to check your scale in this blog post from last year.

So there you have it, 5 of the new trends to think about as you ponder your own style route out of lockdown.

Which ideas will you embrace? Let me know in the comments.
