Colour Analysis - Aqua Blue Swatch

Plan your festive outfits now to avoid December stress!

How is your diary looking?

Mine is super-full with fun (and work) things but I know that in order to keep my head, with everything else that goes on in the run up to Christmas, I need to be as organised as I possibly can.

One of the ways I stay sane is to have all the outfits for my events planned out well in advance.

I’ve noticed that when you don’t plan your outfits properly ahead of time you are more likely to:

  • Panic buy
  • Waste money on sequin dresses that you never wear again
  • Have last minute melt-downs when you realise you have nothing-to-wear
  • Make-do with an outfit you don’t feel good in and spend the whole event feeling fidgety

And when you do take the time to plan, (honestly this can be done in an hour), you’ll reap the benefits:

  • You might realise you don’t need to add anything else into your wardrobe this year
  • You’ll rediscover items you forgot you had (from panic-buying in previous years)
  • You’ll turn up in the ‘right’ outfit and feel comfortable, freeing yourself up to actually enjoy yourself!

So, here’s how to do it.

Step 1:

Recreate this table. Add all of your events for the month in a separate row.

You can doodle this table onto a piece of paper, create yourself a colour coded one in excel or print this one off. Whatever floats your boat.

Use your diary to fill out the spreadsheet leaving the outfit section blank.

Step 2:

Gather all of your possible pieces – these are the ingredients for your outfits. Include footwear, coats and jewellery if this helps.

Step 3:

Taking each event in turn, come up with one or two outfit options. Remember to take into account the dress codes and practicalities of each event to make sure the outfit will work.

Carefully consider things like heels or flats, temperatures – if it’s drinks at your neighbours house and you’ll be in the kitchen you might find it very warm so layers might be a good idea.

If you are outside at a carol concert, your coat, hat and gloves are the outfit. Don’t make these an afterthought.

And finally, add these outfit options into your spreadsheet so you remember!

Is there anything missing?

In completing this process you’ll discover whether you do actually need to buy anything new. Hopefully this gives you time to be more considered with what you bring in and avoid last minute stress.

Whatever you are up to this month, I hope you have lots of fun, at least some time to yourself and that what you’ve been learning about from me this year has proved to be helpful.

Watch out for what’s to come in early 2025. I have two big projects that I think you will love!

Merry Christmas.

With love,

Helen x
