3 Quick tips to instantly revamp your style
Do you ever feel like your wardrobe just isn’t keeping up with your life?
You’re not alone—most women I work with say they’re wearing the same handful of outfits on repeat because nothing else feels quite right.
I know that you already have a huge clothing collection. So why does it feel so hard to make the most of it?
Here are 3 quick tips you can try today, to start freshening up your style:
1. Know your colours.
Wearing shades that harmonise with your natural colouring instantly makes you look more radiant (and saves you from buying pieces that never get worn). The quickest way to learn this is a Colour Analysis Session (I now include this in all of my services for new clients).
If you’ve never had your colours analysed, take some time to try to notice which shades and tone of colour seem to work best for you, making you look your healthiest self. It could be bright ones, soft tones, warmth, cool tones or deep or lighter colours.
When it comes to combining colours, I like to think of us having three options.
These are all up to date and interesting ways to change up your looks using what you already own.
- Colour blocking
Choose two bold colours to wear together. This works well if you suit a more dramatic style. Your colour analysis result will determine which colours to choose but if you suit the summer palette for example, you might try power blue with baby pink, or plum with a cool toned red.
- Pop of colour
Wear a full outfit in one neutral tone and add in one pop of colour. This could be footwear, a top layered under a jacket, a piece of coloured jewellery or a scarf.
It could even be a bold lip/nail colour worn with a neutral outfit. This is such an easy look to pull together when you don’t know what else to do!
- Tonal Dressing
Wear different tones of the same colour. Whether this is shades of brown, blue, green or red, it can look fabulous. Intentional and interesting. You may need to use texture in some of the items to add dimension. This could be suede, knitwear or lace.
2. Think shapes, not sizes.
The right cuts, fabrics and proportions will always flatter you more than focusing on the number on the label. Take your favourite trousers and your favourite dress. Notice the lines the garment makes, what shape would the pattern have been whilst it was being made? This can give you clues as to the cuts and shapes to buy on repeat. And remember, two dresses with the exact same proportions could have completely different size labels depending on where you shop! Ignore the size label.
All my ‘new’ client services include a body shape analysis, where I’ll guide you from shoulder to toe on how to dress your body for maximum confidence and outfit flow.
When you are confident in your best shapes/cuts, it becomes easier to choose new pieces. If they have a similar cut, they are likely to work well with the other clothes in your collection.
3. Build in “hero” pieces.
I can’t tell you the power of having a few standout items that mix beautifully with your basics. These will give you endless outfit options without overstuffing your wardrobe. Whether it’s a beautiful jacket, a textured skirt or some flowy trousers, identify these pieces and wear them more often with different basics, footwear and jewellery.
I’ve been busy prepping my presentation of the new season’s trends for my Style Club members and there are plenty of stand-out options to choose from for autumn/winter.
Look for structured shoulders, graphic cardigans or large slouchy bags.
If you don’t even know what your hero pieces could be, it’s time to discover your style and get my input! Check out all the options by clicking here.
I hope this has inspired you to try something new this month. I’ll be back in your inbox in a couple of weeks with my Style Notes email which will include a new style video to keep you moving forwards in your style journey.
